The aim of the event was to promote the new 2016/17 Rural Renaissance calls in Horizon 2020 given the strategic importance of the rural economy to both Northern Ireland and Ireland.  The interactive event took an indepth look at the Rural Renaissance calls, providing delegates with the opportunity to hear expert insights on everything from policy matters to personal experiences of participating in Horizon 2020.

Marine energy innovation flows more smoothly and quickly
 
The EU-funded MaRINET project has given researchers and developers free access to wave, tidal and offshore-wind energy test infrastructures and has harmonised test practices. This should speed up the commercialisation of marine energy devices.  The early exploitation of marine energy is needed to support EU energy security and to tackle climate change, by allowing a move away from fossil fuels.

Have your say on Horizon 2020
 
The European Commission has launched a public stakeholder consultation which will feed into the interim evaluation of Horizon 2020, the EU's €77 billion research and innovation funding scheme running from 2014 to 2020. This interim evaluation will help improve the functioning of Horizon 2020 and will also be an important element in preparations of a next EU research and innovation programme.  The public stakeholder consultation on the interim evaluation of Horizon 2020 will be open until 15 January 2017.

The aim of the event is to inform and guide potential applicants preparing project proposals and to facilitate sharing of ideas and experiences. It will give participants the chance to network and to find partners for their projects. The first Big Data PPP projects, issued from the 2016 call for proposals, will also be able to present their objectives and roadmap and to meet proposers.

The InterTradeIreland EU Research Partnership Guide for the Arts, Social Sciences and the Humanities aims to facilitate the creation of partnerships between scientists and ASSH researchers on the island of Ireland by providing easy access to the expertise required to build consortia to apply to Horizon 2020.  The guide is an online repository of profiles detailing the ASSH expertise available in Ireland and Northern Ireland in areas such as Economics, Politics, Sociology, Psychology and Education.
