Breast cancer … it’s a scary thought and all too many women assume that it won’t happen to them. Fact is, every ten minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK. So, don’t be ignorant, during breast cancer awareness month 2018 go for a medical checkup, it might save your life.   If you’ve never had a mammogram, make an appointment, take a friend or family member with you and afterward you’ll have peace of mind.

The Breast Screening Service is part of the National Breast Screening Programme and provides a free breast screening service for eligible well women throughout the Southern Trust.  Breast screening aims to find breast cancer at an early stage, often before there are any symptoms. To do this, an x-ray is taken of each breast (mammogram). Early detection may often mean simpler and more successful treatment.

And remember that being active isn't just good for your heart, there are lots of obvious benefits including helping to prevent breast cancer so have a look at the benefits of exercise and how diet and exercise affect your risk for cancer as poor diet and lack of physical activity are key factors that can increase cancer risk but can cancer be prevented?

10th October was World Mental Health Day, a day to raise awareness, improve mental health education and reduce the stigma associated with ill mental health. Statistically, 1 in 4 of us, yes you read correctly, will fight a mental health problem in any given year so it's important to be mindful that any of our friends, family or work colleagues could be suffering from ill mental health and may need a little bit of help.

How many times has someone asked if you are okay, and you've not been totally honest?  Sometimes we say we're fine when we're not. The simple act of asking again, with a genuine interest can help someone to open up for the first time.
But what if you do ask twice and they open up and you don't know what to do or say? Check out the Guide To Asking Twice.
